The Franchise Round of 1992

The IBA once again opened the books to review all existing franchisees. This round saw the least changes so far. TV-am infamously was kicked out for focusing on profits over quality, to be replaced by Sunrise Television. Even more shockingly, Anglia had their franchise revoked. They were replaced with East Television.

To date this is the latest franchise round, though the IBA have announced another review for 2000, to evaluate the state of broadcasters going into the new century. Inbetween this new round and 1992 was a licence for a fifth terrestrial channel which went to a consortium consisting of Thames, Central, Disney and the Guardian.
